Construction Skills Queensland Skills Assessment and Gap Training program

This course provides skills and knowledge to work as a qualified Waterproofer. In construction, a building or structure is waterproofed with the use of membranes and coatings to protect contents as well as protecting structural integrity. Waterproofing is a fundamental aspect of creating a building envelope, which is a controlled environment. 

Scope of work • Apply, install and repair waterproofing including surface preparation, and apply or install material or systems for preventing moisture penetration. The waterproofing units will teach you to prepare and apply water resistant materials to wet areas in residential and commercial buildings. Course details

Entry requirements

To be eligible for funding students must be existing workers or career seekers in the building and construction industry residing in Queensland and also meet one of the following requirements:

  • Australian or New Zealand citizens
  • Permanent residents of Australia
  • Refugee and humanitarian visa holders.

Resources required

Students are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes, which include:

  • safety glasses - students must wear these at all times in the workshop or any eye hazard area as specified by the teacher
  • protective footwear - covered uppers, steel capped toes and non-slip shoes to AS2210
  • hand protection - long leather gloves to AS2161
  • hair protection - long hair (i.e. hair below collar length) must be restrained (hat, headband, or hair tie)
  • industrial type clothing (100% cotton drill).

Students failing to meet these minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry in to practical classes. Students must also be equipped with a pen and notepad for theory training in the classroom.

Students with a successful application have until 30 September 2018 to complete any relevant Gap Training.

Important Information

Construction Skills Queensland is funding the Skills Assessment and Gap Training program for selected construction qualifications. The program targets building and construction workers whose industry experience, existing skills and abilities can be mapped against a formal qualification. By recognising existing skills, the program highlights and funds gaps in training required to receive a formal trade qualification.

The successful achievement of this course requires you to complete all mandatory and elective units from the list below. These units form part of CPC31411 - Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing qualification.

Electives may differ between TAFE Queensland locations and regions.

$400 per student for the Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment and any additional Gap Training.

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding is available until 30 September 2018.

There are no additional costs to study this course.

Outcome

On successful completion of this course you receive a CPC31411 - Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing qualification.
