Prepare for a career in the automotive electrical industry, increase your skills and enhance your employability with this Pre-apprenticeship. Learn to perform basic diagnostic procedures, install, test and repair wiring on vehicle lighting systems and electrical security components, install ancillary electrical equipment, and perform minor repairs to electrical circuits, inspect and service batteries, metal arc welding procedures, thermal cutting and heating procedures. Automotive Electrical Technicians diagnose, repair, service and test all electrical systems and components including, battery starting, charging, ignition and vehicle safety systems that are computer network monitored and controlled. Personal Protective Equipment:

Important: During the training students must supply their own personal protective equipment. Students failing to meet the required personal protective equipment standards of dress will not be permitted entry into practical classes.

The required personal protective equipment will consist of:

  • Eye protection - Clear safety glasses, (tinted or sunglasses not acceptable). These must conform to the Australian Standard AS 1336 or 1337
  • Protective footwear - Safety toe, leather upper, non slip safety footwear must be worn. These must comply with Australian Standard AS2210 and be in good condition
  • Protective clothing - Sleeved, 100% industrial cotton drill work wear must be worn at all times
  • Hand protection - Mechanic gloves
  • Ear protection - Ear plugs or ear muffs

Timetable

Acacia Ridge: full time, Monday and Tuesday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Wednesday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Orientation is on the first day of class students will meet in the Q Block foyer at 8.00 am. Please ensure you have your personal protective equipment (PPE), class materials and Confirmation of Enrolment with you.

Bracken Ridge: full time, Monday and Tuesday 8.00 am - 4.45 pm and Wednesday 8.00 am - 12.00 pm.

Orientation is on the first day of class.  Students will meet in the courtyard on the lower level of B Block.  Please ensure you have your personal protective equipment (PPE), class materials and Confirmation of Enrolment with you.

The successful achievement of this course requires you to complete all mandatory and 6 elective units from the list below. These units form part of AUR20416 - Certificate II in Automotive Electrical Technology.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses.

The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time or intend to live in Queensland for the next 6 months
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • don't currently hold (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.
