Eligible students can complete this course for $200 under the Government Funded Second Chance subsidy.

This qualification will prepare you with the practical skills and knowledge to enter into an apprenticeship in the plumbing and gas fitting industry. You will learn skills that enable you to read plans and calculate quantities, use hand and power tools and carry out welding. You will also learn about working safely, work effectively in the workplace and organise your work. As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned and gain valuable industry contacts and experience through a minimum of 80 hours work placement. A General Safety Induction (White Card) is also delivered in this course – an industry requirement allowing you to work on any Queensland construction site. Resources required

Personal protective equipment (PPE):

Students must be adequately clothed in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements. Students are responsible for wearing appropriate clothing which minimises risks to them.

  • Protective footwear - Safety toe, leather upper, non slip safety footwear must be worn. They must comply with AS2210 and be in good condition.
  • Eye protection - Clear safety glasses, (tinted or sunglasses not acceptable). These must conform to the Australian Standard AS 1336 or AS 1337.
  • Protective clothing - as per trade standards, (100% cotton drill) overalls or long cotton trousers and a long sleeve cotton shirts are required to be worn at all times when undertaking practical welding training to AS4602:1:2011.  In summer the students may choose to wear cotton drill shorts and short sleeved shirts.
  • Ear protection - Ear plugs or ear muffs (must conform to AS/NZS 2210).
  • Head and Eye protection - Arc welding helmet to AS1337.1 & AS1338 and Oxy welding goggles. Whilst welding, long sleeved cotton shirts and trousers must be worn at all times.

Students failing to meet these required standards of PPE will not be permitted entry in to practical classes.

Acacia Ridge: 
Week 1 Classes are Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 3.45 pm 
Weeks 2 - 10 Classes are Monday to Wednesday 8.00 am - 3.45 pm with Thursday and Friday mandatory work placement.

Alexandra Hills:  Part time, Wednesday and Thursday from 8.00am - 4.00 pm. 3 days optional (but highly recommended) work placement.

Eagle Farm: 
Week 1 Classes are Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 3.45 pm 
Weeks 2 - 10 Classes are Monday to Wednesday 8.00 am - 3.45 pm with Thursday and Friday mandatory work placement.


Acacia Ridge: Thursday and Friday mandatory work placement.

Alexandra Hills:  Optional work placement on Monday, Tuesday and Friday over the duration of the course.

Eagle Farm: Thursday and Friday mandatory work placement.

Important Information

Students who hold a White Card must provide evidence of this to their teacher on the first day of class.

Payment Plan

If you are unable to pay the total cost of the course up front or not eligible for VET FEE-HELP (if applicable), you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.


The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses.

The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time or intend to live in Queensland for the next 6 months
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • don't currently hold (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

On successful completion of this course you receive a 52700WA - Certificate II in Plumbing qualification.
