Builder - Medium Rise Licence and Low Rise

This course covers building and construction theory and the practices related to low and medium-rise buildings. It provides you with the knowledge and managerial skills to meet the technical qualifications for the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Builder – Medium Rise licence and a Builder - Low Rise licence. This course will teach you building and construction theory and practices related to low and medium-rise buildings. You will extend your knowledge to building surveying, job supervision and safety management. Our industry-expert teachers will help you develop project management skills in contract administration, project planning and costing, and resource and financial management.

Successful completion of this qualification meets the requirements for both a Builder - Medium Rise and Builder - Low Rise licence and will equip you with the skills you need to successfully manage a construction business for residential, commercial or industrial buildings. Course details

Entry requirements

Completion of Year 12 English and Mathematics is strongly recommended.

Students must either supply a copy of their Year 12 Certificate issued by the state certifying body in the state you completed year 12 or undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment by the first course census date. For a list of all census dates please click HERE.

Timetable

Eagle Farm: part time, night classes 6.00 pm - 9.00 pm, up to four nights a week.
This course is offered as a rolling intake. Please contact the Client Services Centre on 1800 654 447 to discuss timetable options.

External:  This course is also delivered in a self-paced, online mode. No classroom time is required.  Students may enrol in up to 2 units at a time and have a maximum of six months to complete each unit.

Important Information

Students who successfully complete CPC50210 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) can apply to continue their studies with:

  • University of Southern Queensland in an Associate Degree in Business or
  • University of Southern Queensland in an Associate Degree of Engineering or
  • University of Southern Queensland in a Bachelor of Business or
  • University of Southern Queensland in a Bachelor of Business Administration

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

The Higher Level Skills subsidy is a one-off subsidy that offsets the cost of an eligible Certificate IV or higher courses.

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time or intend to live in Queensland for the next 6 months
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.

For some courses, you may also be required to hold a certificate 3 in a relevant industry field.

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you meet the eligibility requirements under the subsided costing and:

  • hold or are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
  • are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • have a disability.

You will need to provide evidence at the time of enrolment.
